As an Experienced Border Patrol Agent, you will play a critical role in law enforcement and border security. Your prior law enforcement or military police experience may qualify you for this rewarding career.

Key Responsibilities:

• Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
• Prevent and apprehend smugglers at or near borders, utilizing surveillance techniques and covert operations.
• Perform investigative duties including physical searches for contraband and evidence.
• Utilize various government assets such as vehicles and off-road equipment for patrols.
• Conduct farm and transportation checks to maintain border security.

Qualifications:

1. GL-9 Level: Requires one year of specialized experience in law enforcement duties.
2. GS-11 Level: Requires one year of specialized experience in a law enforcement role with authority to enforce laws and make arrests.

You must be a U.S. Citizen and have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. Additionally, candidates must be referred for selection before reaching their 40th birthday unless they have prior law enforcement experience. Veterans' Preference candidates are encouraged to apply.

Compensation: Salary ranges from $63,148 to $120,145 per year, with locality pay, overtime opportunities, and additional recruitment and retention incentives that can amount to $60,000.

Upon hiring, you will undergo six months of intensive training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, where you will gain crucial skills in law enforcement and Spanish language proficiency.
